The Tigers went into this roadtrip after an underwhelming run at home that saw them win three games and lose three games.
They began that sequence against Minnesota, when they were unable to back up a 6-3 victory as they lost 6-3 and 9-4 to the Twins.
Detroit then fared better against the Los Angeles Angels, as they recorded 6-5 and 9-5 victories either side of a 7-4 defeat.
The Tigers then kicked off this seven-game road trip by sandiwching a 9-6 defeat to the Chicago White Sox with the narrowest of victories, winning 2-1 and 1-0.
Minnesota Twins Form
Minnesota returned home from New York having avoided being swept by the Yankees during their brief road trip.
The Twins opened the month of August with back-to-back losses in Cleveland, falling 3-2 and 5-4, but they were able to avoid being swept as they took the last meeting with the Guardians 5-4.
They failed to followed that up in the series opener in Detroit, losing 6-3 to the Tigers, but they did rebound quickly and took the next two meetings, 6-3 and 9-4.
Minnesota briefly returned home after that series and beat Kansas City 9-4 and 5-3 either side of a 2-0 defeat.
The Twins then went back out on the road and lost 6-2 and 9-1 to the Yankees, before rebounding to take the last encounter, 4-1.
Verdict
These two starting pitchers take a combined ERA of over 12 into this matchup, so this is an opportunity for both offenses to come out firing.
As a result, we expect the Over to cash in tonight's matchup at Target Field.
