Brandon Moreno Form
Brandon Moreno is the UFC flyweight champion and has a professional record of 21-6-2 (5 KOs, 11 Subs).
Moreno responded to a unanimous decision loss to Alexandre Pantoja in May 2018 with a run that propelled him to the UFC title.
He briefly stepped away from the UFC and won his next outing, and then returned to the promotion in September 2019 for a split decision draw with Askar Askarov.
‘The Assassin Baby’ then bested Kai Kara-France and Jussier Formiga by unanimous decision, before stopping Brandon Royval with strikes in the first round.
That earned Moreno a shot at the flyweight title, but he was forced to settle for a majority draw in the first of three straight fights with Deiveson Figueiredo.
He submitted Figueiredo in the third round of the rematch to become champion for the first time, only to lose his first defence to the Brazilian via unanimous decision.
The 29-year-old Californian rebounded quickly to beat Kara-France by TKO in the third round, and that set up a fourth title fight with Figueiredo.
Moreno won it via TKO, regaining the flyweight title when the doctor stepped in to wave off the fight after three rounds.
Alexandre Pantoja Form
Alexandre Pantoja is the #2 contender in the flyweight division with a professional record of 25-5 (8 KOs, 10 Subs).
Pantoja debuted in the UFC in 2017 and immediately began to climb the ladder with a split decision win over Eric Shelton and a third-round submission of Neil Seery.
He dropped his next outing to Dustin Ortiz via decision, but rebounded with a decision victory over the man he challenges for the title this Saturday, Brandon Moreno.
‘The Cannibal’ then followed up that victory with a first round submission of Ulka Sasaki and a first-round TKO of Wilson Reis.
Pantoja’s run was halted by a unanimous decision loss to Deiveson Figueiredo, but he again bounced back quickly, this time knocking out Matt Schnell in the first round.
The 33-year-old Brazilian failed to make it back-to-back wins as he dropped a decision to Askar Askarov in his next outing, but Pantoja has not lost since.
He got back to winning ways with a unanimous decision success against Manuel Kape in February 2021.
Pantoja then followed that up with back-to-back submission wins, stopping Brandon Royval in the second round and Alex Perez in the first.
Verdict
Alexandre Pantoja is 2-0 all-time against Brandon Moreno, but we are not expecting a hat-trick.
Moreno is a much better fighter now and we expect the UFC champion to get the better of his challenger on the scorecards.
