Israel Adesanya vs Joe Pyfer Predictions & Picks

Israel Adesanya is backed to snap his losing skid with a decision victory in this main event fight.

Adesanya’s form has nose-dived, but he remains one of the most talented strikers in MMA history and he can dictate pace and distance to out-work Joe Pyfer over five rounds.

  • 3 of Israel Adesanya’s last 4 wins have been by decision
  • 8 of Israel Adesanya’s 15 wins in the UFC have come on points
  • Joe Pyfer has not been stopped since an injury in an August 2020 fight
  • Joe Pyfer lost by decision when he last went five rounds

Israel Adesanya Form

Israel Adesanya is a former two-time middleweight champion and the current number four ranked contender with a professional record of 24-5 (16 KOs).

Adesanya arrived in the UFC back in February 2018 and wasted no time in quickly climbing the ladder with four straight wins to set up a showdown with the legendary Anderson Silva.

‘The Last Stylebender’ beat the one-time dominant champion by unanimous decision, landing himself a shot at the interim middleweight title in April 2019.

He took his chance, beating Kelvin Gastelum on points, and in October of that year he became the undisputed champion of the middleweight division as he knocked out Robert Whittaker in the second round.

Adesanya went on to out-point Yoel Romero and knock out Paulo Costa in the second round, before a brief move up to light-heavyweight that saw him lose to champion Jan Blachowicz on points.

The 36-year-old New Zealander returned to 185lbs after that loss and rattled off three more successful defences of his crown, beating Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker and Jared Cannonier on points.

However, his reign came to a stunning halt in November 2022 when he was knocked out in the final round by long-time rival Alex Pereira.

Adesanya avenged that loss the following April, knockout out Pereira in the second round to regain the championship, but he has not won since that 2023 outing.

He surrendered the title to Sean Strickland in his first defence, losing via unanimous decision, and since then he has suffered back-to-back stoppage losses.

‘The Last Stylebender’ was submitted in the fourth round by champion Dricus Du Plessis in August 2024, and in his sole outing of 2025 he was knocked out in the second round by Nassourdine Imavov.

Joe Pyfer Form

Joe Pyfer is the current number 14 ranked contender with a professional record of 15-3 (9 KOs, 4 Subs).

Pyfer signed with the UFC in 2022 following a successful second appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series.

He debuted with a first-round knockout of Alen Amedovski, and backed that up with another first-round stoppage as he took out Gerald Meerschaert.

The 29-year-old then made it three-in-a-row as he submitted Abdul Razak Alhassan in the second round, but he was unable to make it four straight wins in the Octagon.

Pyfer’s first UFC defeat came in February 2024 when he was out-pointed over five rounds by Jack Hermansson.

‘Bodybagz’ has not lost since though, sparking a run of three consecutive victories with an 85-second knockout of Marc-Andre Barriault.

He then backed that up with a unanimous decision victory over Kelvin Gastellum last June, before ending his 2025 campaign with a second-round submission of Abusupiyan Magomedov.

Verdict

The aura of invincibility that surround Israel Adesanya is long gone, but we are not ready to declare the former champion “washed up”.

He desperately needs a victory though, and we are backing him to showcase his elite striking skills to get the job done over five rounds.
