Jamahal Hill vs Khalil Rountree Jr Preview & Picks
Khalil Rountree Jr is tipped to win this main event fight via knockout.
Both men are known for their striking so we expect this to be a stand-up affair, and Jamahal Hill has simply not looked the same since the injury that ended his title reign.
- Khalil Rountree Jr is 5-1 in his last 6 fights
- 9 of Khalil Rountree Jr’s 13 career wins have been via KO/TKO
- Jamahal Hill has not won a fight since January 2023
- Jamahal Hill has been knocked out in each of his last 2 fights
Jamahal Hill Form
Jamahal Hill is a former UFC light-heavyweight champion and the current number four ranked contender with a career record of 12-3 (7 KOs) with 1 No Contest.
Hill debuted in the UFC in January 2020 after a successful appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, and he enjoyed a winning start as he beat Darko Stosic on points.
He then stopped Klidson Abreu with strikes, only for the result to be overturned and deemed a No Contest after he failed a drug test.
The 34-year-old American responded to that with a string of award-winning fights, starting with first-round knockouts of Jimmy Crute and Johnny Walker.
Hill then knocked out Thiago Santos in the fourth round, earning himself a shot at the vacant light-heavyweight championship.
He took his big chance by beating Glover Teixeira on points in January 2023, but his light-heavyweight reign never got started as injury forced him to relinquish the belt.
His stock in the division then dipped as he lost back-to-back fights in his return to action.
Hill first suffered a first-round knockout loss at the hands of Alex Pereira, and in January of this year he was stopped by Jiri Prochazka in the fourth round.
Khalil Rountree Jr Form
Khalil Rountree Jr is the number seven ranked UFC light-heavyweight contender with a professional record of 13-6 (9 KOs) with 1 No Contest.
Rountree Jr made his UFC debut back in 2016 despite coming up short in the final of The Ultimate Fighter, and in his first outing his lost to Tyson Pedro by first-round submission.
He rebounded over his next couple of outings though, knocking out both Daniel Jolly and Paul Craig in the first round.
The 35-year-old’s run was ended by a points defeat to Michal Oleksiejczuk, but that fight was later turned to a No Contest after his opponent failed a drug test.
Rountree Jr then went on an inconsistent run over the next couple of years, as he sandwiched a first-round knockout loss to Johnny Walker with a first-round knockout of Gokhan Saki and a points win over Eryk Anders.
‘The War Horse’ then dropped back-to-back fights as he lost via first-round knockout to Ion Cutelaba and on points to Marcin Prachnio.
He turned it around over the next couple of years though, earning himself a shot at the UFC light-heavyweight title.
Rountree Jr knocked out both Modestas Bukauskas and Karl Roberson in the second round, before edging a split decision win over Dustin Jacoby.
He then stopped Chris Daukaus in the first and Anthony Smith in the third to set up last October’s title fight with Alex Pereira, but he failed to complete his rise to the summit as he was knocked out in the fourth round.
Verdict
Prior to his big injury we would have backed Jamahal Hill to come away with the win here.
However, since returning from the ruptured Achilles his movement has been sluggish, and that spells trouble because if Rountree Jr can find his range, he has the power to end this.
