Kayla Harrison vs Amanda Nunes Preview & Picks
Kayla Harrison is tipped to grind out a victory to retain the women’s bantamweight title.
A couple of years ago Amanda Nunes would have been the favourite, but she has not stepped foot in the Octagon for well over two years.
Harrison has the size and strength to maul ‘The Lioness’ and take advantage of the ring rust.
- Kayla Harrison is on a 4-fight win streak
- Kayla Harrison’s 4 wins have been by submission or decision
- Amanda Nunes has not fought since June 2023
- 3 of Amanda Nunes’ 5 career losses have been by submission or decision
Kayla Harrison Form
Kayla Harrison is the current UFC women’s bantamweight champion with a professional record of 19-1 (6 KOs, 8 Subs).
Harrison crossed over the mixed martial arts after a glittering judo career and quickly made an impression under the Professional Fighters League promotion.
She won the first 15 fights of her career and was a two-time winner of the lightweight tournament.
The 35-year-old American beat Larissa Pacheco on points in the final of the 2019 tournament, and then knocked out Genah Fabian in the first round of the 2201 final.
Harrison failed to become a three-time tournament champion as she was out-pointed by Larissa Pacheco in November 2022, but she rebounded later that year to wrap up her PFL career with a decision win over Aspen Ladd.
She finally made her UFC debut in April 2024 and made an immediate impact by submitting former champion Holly Holm in the second round.
Harrison then beat Ketlen Vieira on points in October of that year, before claiming the women’s bantamweight title with a second-round submission win over Julianna Pena in her only outing of 2025.
Amanda Nunes Form
Amanda Nunes is a former UFC featherweight and bantamweight champion with a professional record of 23-5 (13 KOs, 4 Subs).
Nunes established herself as the greatest female fighter of all time between March 2015 and June 2023 as she claimed UFC titles in multiple weights and beat a who’s who of opponents.
She became a UFC champion for the first time in July 2016 when she tapped out Miesha Tate in the first round to claim the bantamweight championship.
The 37-year-old Brazilian then went on to make a string of successful defences, taking out the likes of Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko, Holly Holm and Germaine De Randamie along the way.
Nunes also clinched the women’s featherweight title during that time thanks to a sensational 51- second knockout of Cris Cyborg.
She made two successful defences of that belt before surrendering her bantamweight belt in surprising fashion in December 2021, as she was submitted by Julianna Pena in the second round.
‘The Lioness’ quickly regained the crown, beating Pena on points in the rematch seven months later.
Nunes then made one more defence before retiring in June 2023, beating Irene Aldana on points.
Verdict
If this fight was three or four years ago I would have backed Amanda Nunes without blinking.
However, it has been two-and-a-half year since she last fought and that spells trouble against Kayla Harrison, who can grind out a victory and perhaps force a submission.
