  • 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup starts on August 25
  • United States odds-on favorites in outright market
  • USA out to make amends after quarter-final exit in 2019
The United States are odds-on favorites to win the FIBA Basketball World Cup, which gets underway on Friday, August 25.

The 32 best nations in basketball are headed to the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan for the tournament, and the sportsbooks are confident about who they think will leave as world champions.

The United States suffered a shock quarter-final exit four years ago, but a change in head coach and a loaded roster of NBA stars has the bookmakers believing they will regain their crown in 2023.

Steve Kerr, a multiple-time NBA champion as a player and a coach, has been handed head coaching responsibilities, and he is working with a stacked roster that features the likes of Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Brandon Ingram and the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, Paolo Banchero.

Therefore it is no surprise to see bookmaker Stake installing the United States as -112 odds-on favurites to win the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

France have finished third in each of the last two tournaments, but they are considered the biggest threat to the USA, with Rudy Gobert and the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama, heading the line-up.

The French are +750 second favourites ahead of +900 Australia, who finished fourth in 2019 and send a roster that features notable NBA talent, including Josh Giddey, Matisse Thybulle, and Patty Mills.

Canada, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and RJ Barrett on the roster, are next up at +1000, with defending champions Spain joined on +1200 by Serbia, who do not have Nikola Jokic but do boast the services of Bogdan Bogdanovic.
