Lebanon vs Canada Preview & Picks

Canada are tipped to cover as they follow up their rout of France.

The Canadians ran over a top contender on opening day and should be far too strong for Lebanon.

  • Canada are 1-0-0 ATS at the FIBA World Cup
  • Lebanon lost by 39 points in their opening game
  • The Under cashed in Canada’s tournament opener

Head To Head

  • Lebanon lead the all-time series 1-0
  • Lebanon won 81-71 the last time the teams met in August 2010

Lebanon Form

Lebanon began their World Cup campaign with a 109-70 blowout defeat at the hands of Latvia.

They fell behind early in and were as good as beaten by half-time, when the Latvians led 55-30.

Sergio El Darwich was Lebanon’s best performer in Lebanon’s tournament opener, finishing the game with 19 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Omari Rasulala Spellman contributed 18 points, while Wael Arakji, with 14 points, was the only other player to hit double digits in scoring.

Canada Form

Canada made a huge statement in their opening game as they smashed a France team who came into the tournament as second favourites to win it all.

The Canadians trailed after the first quarter and led by just three points at the half, but a dominant third quarter saw them out-score France 25-8.

They never looked back after that, extending their lead in the final period to wrap up a 95-65 victory.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge for Canada, finishing the game with a team-leading 27 points to go along with 13 rebounds and six assists.

Kelly Olynyk contributed 18 points, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Dillon Brooks also hit double digits in scoring.

Verdict

Canada sent a message as they destroyed France in their opening game of the tournament.

They more than lived up to the pre-tournament hype and are now backed to make light work of Lebanon.
