New York head to the ‘Motor City’ having now lost three consecutive games to fall three behind Detroit in the Eastern Conference.
The Knicks enjoyed a six-game win streak in the first half of December that saw them win the NBA Cup, beating Orlando 132-125 in the final.
They stumbled just before Christmas with two defeats in three games, but responded with a three-game winning run.
New York beat Cleveland 126-124 at home, before heading out on the road to down Atlanta 128-125 and New Orleans 130-125.
The Knicks lost their final outing of 2025 though, falling 134-132 in San Antonio, and they have begun 2026 with back-to-back home losses, losing 111-99 to Atlanta and 130-119 to Philadelphia.
Detroit Pistons Form
Detroit remain the leaders in the Eastern Conference, but with three defeats in their last five games they are on their worst run of the season.
The Pistons put together a strong run of form before Christmas as they won seven times during an eight-game spell.
They went into Christmas Day on a three-game win streak, having backed up a 112-86 home success against Charlotte with road wins at Portland, 110-102, and Sacramento, 136-127.
Detroit’s run was ended on the road though, as they were beaten 131-129 by Utah and 112-99 by the LA Clippers.
The Pistons then failed to follow up a 128-106 victory at the Los Angeles Lakers as they returned home to lose 118-112 to Miami, but they did rebound in Cleveland last night, beating the Cavaliers 114-110.
Verdict
Detroit’s form has cooled off since Christmas, but they did win last night and their home form has been strong this season.
