Tennessee go into their opening game of March Madness looking to issue an immediate response to their conference final defeat.
The Volunteers ended the regular season on a decent run of form, winning eight of their final nine games.
One of those losses was a disappointing defeat at Mississippi in their penultimate regular season outing, but they hit back immediately to wrap up the schedule with a 75-65 win over South Carolina.
Tennessee backed that up in the quarter-finals of the SEC tournament as they downed Texas, 83-72, and they then booked a trip to the final with a 70-65 win over Auburn.
The Volunteers failed to claim the conference crown though, as they were beaten 86-77 by Florida.
Wofford Form
Wofford head to national tournament riding a three-game win streak that secured them the conference crown.
The Terriers endured an inconsistent run of form over the final few weeks of the season, going 4-3 in their last seven games.
They wrapped up the regular season with a 78-75 loss to Furman, but they had done more than enough to make the Southern Conference tournament.
Wofford bounced back from that loss in the quarter-finals, beating East Tennessee State 72-60, and they then downed Virginia Military Institute in the semi-finals, 85-65.
All that stood between the Terriers and conference glory was Furman, and they avenged that regular season-ending loss as they ran out 92-85 winners.
Verdict
Tennessee came up short in the SEC tournament, but we do not expect to see a hangover here.
The Volunteers are backed to make straightforward work of Wofford as they progress to the second round.
