Indiana vs Oregon Preview & Picks

Indiana are tipped to repeat their regular season win over Oregon.

The Ducks have improved since that meeting, but this Hoosiers team has been on a dominant run.

The defense has been playing light’s out while Fernando Mendoza and the offense efficiently stack up points, and we expect more of the same here.

  • Indiana have a perfect 14-0 record this season
  • Indiana have covered in their previous 2 playoff wins
  • Indiana won by 10 points in Oregon last October
  • The Under cashed when the two teams met in October

Head To Head

  • The all-time series is tied at 2-2
  • Indiana won 30-20 when the two teams last met on October 11

Indiana Form

Indiana go into the semi-finals of the College Football Playoffs still boasting a perfect record thanks to 14 consecutive victories.

The Hoosiers raced out of the blocks and wasted little time in sending a message to the rest of the Big Ten, destroying Illinois 63-10 in their conference opener.

The signature win of their regular season campaign came on October 11 as they travelled to Oregon and took down the Ducks, 30-20, and from there they won six more games to secure a spot in the Big Ten Championship.

Indiana claimed the conference championship with a thrilling 13-10 victory over defending national champions Ohio State, earning themselves the number one spot in the rankings.

The Hoosiers then cemented their status as the number one ranked team as they blew out Alabama in the Rose Bowl, 38-3, to kick off their playoff campaign.

Oregon Form

Oregon go into this rematch from the regular season having responded to a defeat to Indiana with an eight-game win streak.

The Ducks sat at 5-0 at the end of September following a 30-24 upset of Penn State on the road, but their perfect start was halted a fortnight later as they fell at home to Indiana, 30-20.

They rebounded from that loss by winning six straight conference games, but that was not enough to earn them a shot at the Big Ten crown.

It was, however, enough for Oregon to earn a place in the playoffs, and they downed James Madison 51-34 in the first round of the tournament.

The Ducks then backed that up in Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day as they impressively shut out Texas Tech, winning 23-0.

Verdict

Oregon have undoubtedly got better since the October meeting, but so have Indiana.

The Hoosiers have been on a dominant run and just humiliated Alabama last time out, so we fully expect Curt Cignetti’s team to march on in the playoffs.
