Miami FL vs Indiana Preview & Picks
Miami are tipped to cover as a betting underdog in the National Championship Game.
The Hurricanes are a team that can dominate in the trenches and lean on the run game as they chew up the clock.
It may not be enough to knock off an historic Indiana team, but it can be enough to ensure this does not get out of hand.
- Miami are 10-5-0 ATS this season
- Miami are 3-0-0 ATS as a betting underdog
- Miami are 3-0-0 ATS in the College Football Playoffs
- The Under has hit in both of Miami’s playoff games as a betting underdog
- The Under has cashed in 2 of Indiana’s last 3 games
Head To Head
- The all-time series is tied at 1-1
- Miami won 14-7 when the two teams last met in October 1966
Miami Form
Miami enter the National Championship Game having now reeled off seven consecutive victories, including a couple of big playoff upsets.
The Hurricanes opened the season with a 27-24 upset of Notre Dame, and from there they reeled off a bunch of wins over state rivals, including beating Florida 26-7 and Florida State 28-22.
However, their quest to make the College Football Playoffs suffered a major setback after that as their perfect start was ended by a 24-21 loss to Louisville, and they then failed to follow up a 42-7 blowout of Stanford as they lost 26-20 in overtime at SMU.
That left Miami needing to not only win out, but also needing to win their remaining four regular season games in impressive fashion.
The Hurricanes responded to that challenge and beat Syracuse 38-10, NC State 41-7, Virginia Tech 34-17 and Pitt 38-7 to snatch a place in the playoffs.
They then kicked off their postseason campaign with a 10-3 upset of Texas A&M at College Station, before heading to Arlington to stun the defending national champions, Ohio State, 24-14.
Miami then secured their place in the National Championship Game as Carson Beck’s late touchdown lifted them to a 31-27 victory over Ole Miss.
Indiana Form
Indiana enter the biggest game in College Football having been on a dominant run this season, winning all 15 of their games so far.
The Hoosiers sent an early message as they destroyed an Illinois team ranked in AP’s top 10, winning 63-10, and they followed that up a few weeks later with a statement win at Oregon, downing the Ducks 30-20.
From there they did not take their foot off the gas, winning their final six games on the slate to march into the Big Ten Championship ranked number two in the nation.
Standing opposite them were the number one ranked, defending champion Buckeyes, and Indiana delivered a 13-10 victory over Ohio State to claim the number one seed for the playoffs.
The Hoosiers enjoyed a bye for the first round of the playoffs, but they showed no signs of rust when they finally returned to action on New Year’s Day.
They kicked off their quest for a national championship by embarrassing Alabama in a 38-3 victory.
Indiana then followed that up with another emphatic victory to make the big game, blasting conference rivals Oregon, 56-22, to set up this showdown with Miami at Hard Rock Stadium.
Verdict
Indiana have been on an incredible run this season and we expect it to end with a national championship.
However, Miami have been on a tremendous run themselves thanks to their physical brand of football, and with just over a free touchdown to their name, the Hurricanes make for a tempting spread bet.
