The Fighting Irish opened the campaign with a 23-13 victory at Texas A&M, only to suffer a sensational 16-14 defeat when they hosted Northern Illinois in their home opener.

Notre Dame won 10 straight to make the postseason, and then took down Indiana in the first round, 27-17.
The Fighting Irish backed that up with a 23-10 victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, before securing a trip to the National Championship Game with a dramatic 27-24 win over Penn State.
