The Hurricanes put together back-to-back wins in late December, only to then close out 2025 with a 5-1 defeat in Pittsburgh.
They then began 2026 with back-to-back home defeats, falling 7-5 to Montreal and 5-3 to Colorado, but they have not lost since.
Carolina snapped their skid on the road as they travelled to New Jersey to take down the Devils, 3-1.
The Hurricanes then followed up that success at home, as they beat Dallas 6-3, Anaheim 5-2 and Seattle 3-2.

Detroit also enter this game on a winning run, having reeled off three consecutive victories.
The Red Wings went into Christmas Day on a three game win streak, only to see that run end with a 5-2 defeat in Carolina.
They rebounded with back-to-back home wins to close out 2025, beating Toronto 3-2 in overtime and Winnipeg 2-1 in regulation, only to start 2026 with back-to-back defeats.
Detroit met Pittsburgh in a double-header and lost 4-3 in overtime on the road, before returning home for a 4-1 defeat to the Penguins.
The Red Wings have not lost since though, sandwiching a 5-1 home win against Vancouver with road successes against Ottawa, 5-3, and Montreal, 4-0.
Verdict
You could make a case for either team here, but we are leaning towards the Red Wings.
Detroit have been rock solid on the home ice in recent weeks, but Carolina have suffered some disappointing road results recently.
