Florida head to Boston having passed up on the chance to clinch the series at home in Game 5.
The Panthers, who put together a 52-24-6 record in the regular season, made straightforward work of Tampa Bay in the first round.
They raced out to a 3-0 series lead with 3-2, 3-2 (OT) and 5-3 victories over the Lightning, and then responded to a 6-3 road loss with a series-clinching 6-1 victory.
Florida failed to back that up as they lost the series opener at home to Boston, 5-1, but they hit back impressively with a 6-1 win at home, and 6-2 and 3-2 victories on the road.
That gave the Panthers the opportunity to wrap things up on Tuesday night, but they failed to get the job done as they lost 2-1.
Boston Bruins Form
Boston return home with an opportunity to force Game 7, having levelled the series at 3-3 with a big home win last time out.
The Bruins, who went 47-20-15 in the regular season, won a marathon seven-game series with Toronto in the first round, blowing a 3-1 series lead before winning 2-1 in overtime in Game 7.
They will now need another seven-game series if they are to get past Florida in the second round.
Boston made a successful start to the series as they beat the Panthers 5-1 in Game 1, but they soon found themselves on the brink of elimination as they lost 6-1 and home, and 6-2 and 3-2 on the road.
The Bruins fended off elimination in Game 5, winning 2-1 on the road, but they must now follow up that victory with another in Game 6.
Verdict
Florida let themselves down in Game 5, but we are not expecting similar scenes here.
They are 2-0 in Boston in this series, winning in regulation both times, so they make for an appealing underdog.
