The Americans opened the tournament in impressive fashion by downing the defending champions, Finland, 4-1.
That was followed up by a 7-1 demolition of Hungary and a 3-2 success against Germany as they put themselves firmly on course for the knockout stage.
The wins kept coming as they then beat Austria 4-1, and then recorded shutout victories over Denmark and France, winning 3-0 and 9-0.
The United States wrapped up the group stage with a 4-3 overtime win over Sweden.
Czech Republic Form
The Czech Republic claimed the final qualifying spot in the quarter-finals, winning four of their seven group games.
They opened the tournament with back-to-back wins, edging Slovakia 3-2 before blowing out Kazakhstan 5-1.
Their winning start was halted by a 4-3 overtime loss to Latvia, but they hit back quickly as they beat Slovenia 6-2 and Norway 2-0.
The Czech Republic failed to win either of their final two group games though.
They were beaten 4-2 by group winners Switzerland, before suffering a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Canada.
