Washington head to Chicago on a disappointing run of form, having now lost 10 of their previous 14 games.
The Capitals were red hot in late November, but cooled off in December as they lost seven of their last nine games before Christmas Day.
They won their first post-Christmas game as they downed New Jersey 4-3 in overtime on the road, but failed to follow that up as they lost 5-3 in Florida.
Washington rebounded with a 6-3 success at home to the New York Rangers, only to then lose 4-3 in Ottawa and 3-2 at home to Chicago.
The Capitals avoided a third straight loss as they beat Anaheim 7-4 at home, but they were unable to back that up on Wednesday as they fell 4-1 to Dallas.
Chicago Blackhawks Form
Chicago come into this game having made a flying start to 2026, winning their first four games of the year.
It is a far cry from Chicago’s form prior to Christmas Day, when they lost six games in a row.
They snapped that skid with a 4-3 win in Dallas, only to quickly return to losing ways as they ended 2025 by losing 7-3 to Pittsburgh and 3-2 to the New York Islanders at home.
Chicago have not lost since though, kicking off this red-hot run with a 4-3 victory at home to Dallas on New Year’s Day.
The Blackhawks backed that up with a 3-2 victory in Washington, before returning home to down Vegas 3-2 and St Louis 7-3.
Verdict
Chicago’s fantastic form is not going to last forever, but they are the hotter hand heading into this.
They won in Washington last weekend and the Capitals are hardly in good form on the road, so give us the Hawks and the plus-money.
