Carlos Alcaraz looks set to raise his level as the tournament reaches the business end, and that spells trouble for Karen Khachanov, whose form in Doha and over recent months has been underwhelming.

Unless the Russian produces a sharp uptick in level, this matchup heavily favors Alcaraz, who should be able to assert control and come through comfortably.

Stats Strongly Back Alcaraz

  • Carlos Alcaraz is 0–1 in quarterfinal matches in Doha.
  • Alcaraz owns a dominant 43–11 career win–loss record in tour-level QFs.
  • Khachanov holds a negative 28–38 win–loss record in tour-level QFs.
  • He has never defeated a world No. 1 in his career.

Alcaraz Rolling In Doha

Carlos Alcaraz moved smoothly into the quarterfinals in Doha, extending his strong start to the season with a straight-sets win over Valentin Royer in the previous round.

This marks Alcaraz’s second consecutive quarterfinal appearance in Doha. On his debut here last year, he also reached this stage but was upset by Jiri Lehecka, a result he will be keen to avenge by pushing deeper into the draw this time.

With confidence high and form firmly on his side, the Spaniard has clear title ambitions for the week. Alcaraz began the season strongly, picking up a notable exhibition win over Jannik Sinner before going on to capture the Australian Open title.

That triumph in Melbourne was particularly significant, as it marked his first title there and made him the youngest player to complete the career Grand Slam.

Heading

Karen Khachanov has battled his way into the quarterfinals this week, edging past his previous two opponents in hard-fought matches.

While the level has not been particularly convincing, it is still a welcome result for the Russian, who has been trying to rebuild momentum after the injury setback he suffered during last year’s US Open swing.

He arrived in Doha with just three wins from his first six matches of the 2026 season, so reaching this stage already marks a step in the right direction.

The Russian can also take confidence from his strong history at this venue. Doha has been one of the more productive stops on the calendar for him, and those past results should give him belief heading into this challenging clash with the world No. 1.

Khachanov lifted the title here in 2024 and also reached the semifinals in 2022. Notably, he has played two quarterfinals in Doha and won both.

Verdict

Carlos Alcaraz arrives brimming with confidence, carrying an unbeaten start to the season into this matchup against a vulnerable-looking Karen Khachanov. With momentum firmly on his side and the level he has been producing, the stage is set for the Spaniard to take control and deliver a commanding win.
