Daniil Medvedev holds a significant psychological edge over Stefanos Tsitsipas, and that head-to-head dominance makes it hard to look past him whenever they meet.

Expect Medvedev to assert authority again, with a straight-sets win and handicap cover the most likely outcome.

Medvedev Holds the Doha Edge

  • Daniil Medvedev is a former champion in Doha.
  • He reached at least the quarterfinals in both of his previous appearances here (2023 and 2025).
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas’ best result in Doha remains a quarterfinal run back in 2018.
  • Tsitsipas has yet to win consecutive main-draw matches so far this season.

Doha Brings Out the Best in Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev hit a couple of bumps in recent weeks, falling to Learner Tien at the Australian Open and then to Ugo Humbert in the Rotterdam opener. He responded well in Doha, though, opening his campaign with a composed straight-sets win over Juncheng Shang.

Despite those two setbacks, it has still been a respectable start to the season for the former world No. 1. He kicked off the year with a title run in Brisbane and also reached the second week of the Australian Open.

Doha has been a particularly kind venue for Medvedev, and he will look to build further momentum here. He won the title on his tournament debut in 2023, and on his return in 2025 he was tracking well before his run ended with a retirement in the quarterfinals.

Tsitsipas Searching for a Spark

Stefanos Tsitsipas is still searching for a result that can properly kick-start his season. He has played six main-tour matches so far this year and lost three of them, struggling to build any sustained momentum.

He has also not enjoyed the same level of success in Doha as Daniil Medvedev. Tsitsipas reached the quarterfinals here on debut in 2018 as a qualifier, but his return visit in 2025 ended with a first-round exit.

At a venue where he has already found it tough, he now faces an even more demanding test against Medvedev, a player who has historically troubled him in this matchup.

Tsitsipas will need to solve that problem quickly if he wants to end his long wait for a deep run on the main tour. He has not progressed to the quarterfinal stage at any event since Barcelona in April 2025.

Verdict

Daniil Medvedev holds a clear psychological edge over Stefanos Tsitsipas, and that head-to-head advantage often shows whenever they meet. He also arrives in better form at the moment, which only strengthens his position in this matchup.
