Andrey Rublev hasn’t been the most reliable player to trust lately, but Doha is one of the few venues where he still deserves the benefit of the doubt. His record here is excellent and he looked sharp in his opening match, suggesting he’s settling into the conditions well.

Against Fabio Marozsan, Rublev should have enough control and experience to take care of business with a routine win.

Rublev’s Doha Dominance

  • Fabian Marozsan is 0–2 in second-round matches at the ATP Doha event.
  • Marozsan holds a 10–23 record against top-20 players and has lost seven of his last eight meetings against that tier.
  • Andrey Rublev is a former Doha champion and lifted the title here again in 2025.
  • Rublev rarely exits early in Doha, reaching at least the quarterfinals in six of his seven appearances at the tournament.

Marozsan Targets Doha Breakthrough

Fabian Marozsan produced a strong opening performance in Doha this week, cruising past Hugo Humbert 6–3, 6–1 to book his place in the second round.

The Hungarian has looked fairly solid so far in 2026, picking up six wins from his first ten matches. His best result came with a semifinal run in Auckland last month.

He is now targeting a maiden quarterfinal in Doha. Marozsan reached the second round on both of his previous visits, in 2021 and 2025, but fell at this stage each time, losing to Karen Khachanov and Jiri Lehecka, respectively.

Rublev Returns to His Comfort Zone

Andrey Rublev may not be brimming with confidence right now, but the Middle East swing often provides him with the platform to reset and rebuild momentum.

Doha in particular has been a venue where he tends to rediscover his rhythm, and he will be hoping another strong run here helps him move back toward his best level.

He has been one of the standout performers at this tournament in recent years, winning the title twice and reaching multiple deep rounds, including a runner-up finish and several quarterfinal appearances.

Notably, he returns this week as the defending champion, a status that should give him added belief in familiar conditions.

Rublev’s 2026 campaign has been steady if not spectacular, with five wins from his first seven matches. His best showing so far has been a semifinal run in Hong Kong last month.

Verdict

Purely on the strength of Rublev’s outstanding record in Doha and how comfortable he tends to look on these courts, he gets the nod here. Even if his overall form has been patchy, this is a venue where he regularly delivers.

At a very backable price, Rublev looks a solid pick to win and cover the -2.5 games handicap as well.
