The Dutchman has enough consistency to stay competitive, making him a solid option to cover the handicap and keep the scoreline respectable.
Rublev’s Perfect Doha Record
- Jesper de Jong is making his debut on the Middle East swing this week.
- De Jong has lost all four of his main-tour matches so far this season.
- Andrey Rublev is the defending champion in Doha.
- Rublev holds a perfect 7–0 record in opening-round matches at this event.
Head-to-Head - Rublev Leads 1-0

| 2025 | Barcelona | Clay | R1 | Rublev | 6–1, 6–3 |
De Jong Better Than Results Show
Jesper de Jong has been far more competitive so far in 2026 than the results suggest. He pushed Daniil Medvedev in a couple of tight sets at the Australian Open and even took the opening set against Karen Khachanov in Rotterdam last week before fading, showing he can trouble higher-ranked opponents.
His record against top-20 players stands at just 1–9, but many of those losses have been hard-fought rather than one-sided. De Jong has generally managed to keep matches respectable against elite competition.

Doha Comfort Zone for Rublev
Andrey Rublev’s start to the season has been fairly underwhelming by his standards, with a semifinal in Hong Kong followed by a third-round exit at the Australian Open, results that fell short of expectations.
The Middle East swing should offer some comfort, though, as this part of the calendar has traditionally brought out his best tennis. The familiar conditions and past success here often help Rublev reset and rediscover his rhythm.
He is a two-time ATP Doha champion and boasts an outstanding record at this event, having reached at least the quarterfinals in six of his previous seven appearances.

Verdict
Doha has been a highly productive stop for Rublev and, as the defending champion, he fully deserves to be a firm favorite here. However, the odds on him are too short to offer real value.
Jesper de Jong has been competitive in his matches this season and, even if an upset looks unlikely, he has the tools to keep things respectable. Backing de Jong to cover the +4.5 games handicap and to win over 8.5 games looks like the more appealing play at solid odds
