Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays Picks & Betting Tips

Toronto (85-66) couldn’t make up  any ground in the AL Wild Card race with Tuesday’s 4-2 victory over Tampa Bay as both Boston and New York also won. The Blue Jays, slotted in the second wild card spot, is 1.5 games behind the fourth place Red Sox and a-half game in front of the Yankees.

The Blue Jays have won four of six and are 7-3.  Toronto is 42-35 on the road and 64-46 vs. RHPs.

Mayweather is starting for the first time this season -- fourth time in his career – and making ninth appearance overall. The 29-year-old has allowed four runs in three innings of work since being recalled from the minors this month.

Tampa Bay (93-59) has lost three of four and is 4-6 in last 10.

Tampa Bay’s magic number remains is six to clinch the AL East with nine games left. The Rays also have a 2.5 game advantage over the Astros for the best record in the AL.

Tampa Bay is 48-29 at home and 35-27 vs. RHPs.

Patino is coming of his longest outing since August 21, although 21-year-old allowed four runs and six hits over 6 innings of work in a 7-4 victory over Detroit (Sept. 17). He has a 6.92 ERA and .309 BAA in three September starts.

Head To Head

Bo Bichette broke a 2-2 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, his 98th of the season, and Toronto added one more run in the eighth as the Blue Jays defeated the Rays 4-2 on Tuesday night. The Jays outhit the Rays 8-5 and closer Jordan Romano worked out of a ninth inning bases loaded jam to pick up his 20th save.

Toronto has won four of the last six meetings against Tampa Bay. The Rays still lead the season-series 10-8 although the teams have split their eight matchups at Tropicana Field.

Verdict

This game appears to be a bullpen game. Mayweather probably won’t go more than two innings and the Blue Jays bullpen hasn’t been sharp in September (4.27 ERA).

Patino, who has given up seven runs over 8 innings (2 starts) against the Blue Jays, has not gone over six innings this year. Patrino has pitched well during day games (3.38 ERA) and at Tropicana Field (3.38).
