Michigan State Form

Michigan have gone from being unranked to knocking on the door to the top 10 after five games.

The Spartans opened with a 38-21 win over Northwestern before easing past Youngstown State 42-14.

They then registered the biggest win of the season so far, dominating then #24 Miami (FL) in a 38-17 road win.

Michigan State have followed that up with wins over Nebraska (23-20) and Western Kentucky (48-31).

Payton Thorne has been very efficient at QB, going 82/130 for 1,236 yards, 11 touchdowns and a pick.

Jayden Reed is the standout receiver with 463 yards and five TDs, while Jalen Nailor is a threat with 269 yards and three scores.

The key cog in this offense though is running back Kenneth Walker III. He has 680 yards and eight rushing scores off 100 carries. He also has a receiving TD.

Rutgers Form

Rutgers opened the season with three straight wins but go into this on the back of a couple of losses.

The Scarlet Knights rolled over Temple, 61-14, in their season opener before seeing off Syracuse 17-7.

A 45-13 blow-out of Delaware followed, but they have not won since, going 0-2 against ranked opponents.

They fell 20-13 to #19 Michigan before being destroyed 52-13 by #11 Ohio State.

Starting QB Noah Vedral has gone 92/138 for 914 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.

14 players have caught at least one pass so far, with Bo Melton leading the way on 253 yards and two TDs.

On the ground Vedral has shown his threat with his legs, rushing for 138 yards. That puts him second to Isaih Pacheco who has 28- yards and three scores.

Verdict

Michigan State committed seven turnovers as they fell to Rutgers last season, but a repeat is unlikely.

The Spartans have grown leaps and bounds since then and do appear capable of catapulting themselves into the Top 10.

The offense is firing on all cylinders right now and should ensure they win and cover here.
