Mayweather Jr out-boxed Pacquiao over 12 rounds in 2015, in a fight where both men were past their peak.
Now they are another decade over the hill, but one thing ‘Money’ has done is keep himself in good shape with all of those exhibition wins, so we expect a repeat of that first meeting.

- 7 of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s last 8 victories have been by decision
- Floyd Mayweather Jr has not knocked out a recognised boxer since 2011
- 5 of Manny Pacquiao’s 8 career defeats have been by decision
- 11 of Manny Pacquiao’s previous 12 fights have gone the distance
Head To Head
- Floyd Mayweather won by unanimous decision when the two men met in 2015
Floyd Mayweather Jr Form
Floyd Mayweather Jr is a former five-weight world champion with a perfect professional record of 50-0 (27 KOs).
Mayweather Jr made his professional debut back in October 1996 and quickly rose the ladder to earn his first world title fight two years later.
He claimed the WBC super-featherweight crown with a third-round stoppage of Genaro Hernandez, and went on to successfully defend it eight times before moving up to lightweight in April 2002.
The now 49-year-old marked his debut at the new weight by out-pointing Jose Luis Castillo over 12 rounds to claim the WBC and Ring Magazine titles, and later that year he successfully defended those belts against the former champion.
From there Mayweather Jr made two more successful defences, before becoming a three-weight world champion in June 2005 when he stopped Arturo Gatti in six to claim the WBC light-welterweight title.
‘Money’ made another step up in weight shortly after that and collected the IBF and IBO welterweight belts with a unanimous decision victory over Zab Judah in April 2006, and several months later he added the WBC, IBA and Ring Magazine titles by beating Carlos Baldomir on points.
Following that victory he jumped to light-middleweight to beat WBC champion Oscar De La Hoya on points, before dropping back down to welterweight in late 2007 to knockout Ricky Hatton in the 10th round in one of the biggest fights of all time.
From there he beat Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley on points, before regaining the WBC welterweight championship he never lost in the ring, stopping Victor Ortiz in the fourth.
Mayweather Jr then beat Miguel Cotto via unanimous decision win the WBA (Super) light-middleweight crown, before adding the Ring Magazine belt to his WBC welterweight crown with a points success against Robert Guerrero.
He then edged Canelo Alvarez by majority decision to leave with the WBA (Super), WBC and Ring Magazine light-middleweight titles, before once again returned to welterweight to dominate with back-to-back points wins over Marcos Maidana to retain the WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine welterweight titles, as well as the WBC light-middleweight crown.
That set up a huge first meeting with Manny Pacquiao, which he won by unanimous decision, before beating Andre Berto on points and Connor McGregor by 10th round knockout to seemingly close out his professional career in 2017.
Manny Pacquiao Form
Manny Pacquiao is a former eight-weight world champion, and the only man in history to win 12 world titles in eight different weights, and he boasts a career record of 62-8-3 (39 KOs).
Pacquiao debuted back in January 1995 and claimed his first world title just under four years later when he knocked out Chatchai Sasakul in the eighth round to win the WBC flyweight crown.
He became a super-bantamweight champion in June 2001 when he stopped Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in the sixth to win the IBF super-bantamweight title, and he went on to add the WBO championship before moving up to featherweight.
‘Pacman’ marked his debut at the weight by knocking out Marco Antonio Barrera in the 11th round to claim the Ring Magazine championship, but failed to add the WBA and IBF belts as he went to a split decision draw with Juan Manuel Marquez in May 2004.
Pacquiao’s bid to win super-featherweight gold ended in failure in March 2005, as he dropped a decision to Erik Morales, but he was able to avenge that loss just over a year later with a 10th round knockout win.
The now-47-year-old Filipino won the trilogy fight in November 2006, knockout out Morales in the third, and went on to outpoint both Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez to become the WBC and Ring Magazine champion.
He added another world title in June 2008 as he stopped David Diaz in nine to win the WBC lightweight title, and then went on to record three of the best wins of his career over the next couple of years.
Pacquiao stopped Oscar De La Hoya in eight rounds in December 2008, steamrollered Ricky Hatton in two rounds to claim the IBO and Ring Magazine welterweight titles in May 2009, and then knocked out Miguel Cotto in the 12th to win the WBO welterweight belt in November of that year.
He won the next four fights of his career too, including a points win over Antonio Margarito to collect the WBC super-welterweight belt, before finally seeing his win streak end with a split decision loss to Timothy Bradley and a sixth-round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.
‘Pacman’ rebounded from those setbacks with unanimous decision wins over Brandon Rios, Timothy Bradley and Chris Algieri, setting up a massive fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr for the WBO, WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine welterweight titles.
However, in the biggest contest of his career, Pacquiao came up short against Mayweather Jr, losing on points.
Pacquiao rebounded with unanimous decision wins over Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas, and then responded to a shock points loss to Jeff Horn with a seventh-round knockout of Lucas Matthysse.
He followed that up by beating Adrien Broner and Keith Thurman on points to become a welterweight champion once again, but following a unanimous decision defeat to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021 he hung up his gloves.
That retirement would last almost four years, before Pacquiao returned to the ring last July for a majority draw with WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
Mayweather Jr vs Pacquiao - What They Said
Floyd Mayweather: “I already fought and beat Manny Pacquiao once. The time will be the same result.”
Manny Pacquiao: “Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough. They deserve this rematch and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record, and always remember who gave it to him.”
Verdict
Manny Pacquiao had no answer for Floyd Mayweather Jr when the pair met a decade ago.
Now both men are even further past their peak, but Mayweather Jr has stayed fit and he has less miles on the clock than Pacquiao, who has been involved in more wars.
We expect to see Mayweather produce a smart, tactical performance to get the job done once again.
