Gervonta Davis takes a perfect 26-0 record into his latest defence of the WBA (regular) lightweight title.
Davis became a world champion for the first time in January 2017 when he knocked out Jose Pedraza in the seventh round to become IBF super-featherweight champion.
He made two successful defences of that belt before claiming the WBA (super) title in April 2018.
Davis went on to successfully defend that belt twice before making the move up to lightweight in December 2019.
He knocked out Yuriorkis Gamboa in the 12th round to win the WBA (regular) title in his debut at the weight.
‘Tank’ successfully retained that title and claimed the WBA (super) super-featherweight when he stopped Leo Santa Cruz in his only outing of 2020.
Davis fought twice last year, stopping Mario Barros in the 11th before earning a decision win over stand-in opponent Isaac Cruz.
That victory over Cruz took Davis’ career record to 26-0, with 24 wins coming via stoppage.
Rolando Romero Form
Rolando Romero takes a perfect 14-0 professional record into the biggest fight of his career so far.
Romero became WBA interim lightweight champion in August 2020 when he beat Jackson Martinez by decision.
In his next outing, with no belt on the line, ‘Rolly’ knocked out Avery Sparrow in the sevent round.
He then made it a perfect 2021 in July of last year when stopped Anthony Yigit in the seventh round.
That victory earned him a shot at Davis before the end of the year, but legal issues forced Romero out of the fight.
Romero finally gets his shot here and takes an unbeaten record into the fight, with 12 of his 14 wins coming by stoppage.
