Sebastian Fundora vs Tim Tszyu 2 Preview & Picks

Tim Tszyu is tipped to avenge last year’s defeat to Sebastian Fundora.

The stars aligned for Fundora in the first fight as he stepped in as a replacement and benefited from a horrendous cut Tszyu sustained early on.

Tsyzu has had a full camp to prepare for this rematch, and that can be the telling factor.

  • 18 of Tim Tszyu’s 25 career wins have been by KO
  • Sebastian Fundora’s only career loss came via knockout
  • 4 of Tim Tszyu’s last 6 fights have ended inside the distance

Head To Head

  • Sebastian Fundora won by split decision when the two men last met in March 2024

Sebastian Fundora Form

Sebastian Fundora is the defending WBO world light-middleweight champion with a professional record of 22-1 (14 KOs) with 1 draw.

Fundora made his professional debut in September 2016 and went unbeaten in his first 19 fights to earn his first world title fight.

He took on Erickson Lubin for the interim WBC light-middleweight title in April 2022, and he claimed the title thanks to a ninth-round stoppage.

The 27-year-old American then retained the interim crown later that that, beating Carlos Ocampo via unanimous decision.

That victory did not result in a shot at the full title though, and in April 2023 he surrendered the interim belt via a seventh-round knockout loss to Brian Mendoza.

Despite the loss, Fundora’s next fight would be for a world title, after agreed to replace an injured Keith Thurman in a fight against Tim Tszyu.

He took his big chance too, edging Tszyu by split decision to claim the WBO and WBC light-middleweight world titles.

In his first defence in March, ‘The Towering Inferno’ knocked out Chordale Booker in the fourth round.

Tim Tszyu Form

Tim Tszyu is a former world light-middleweight champion with a career record of 25-2 (18 KOs).

Tszyu made his professional debut in December 2016 and won several minor championships as he won the first 21 fights of his career.

That earned him a fight for the interim WBO light-middleweight crown in March 2023, and he claimed the belt with a ninth-round knockout of Tony Harrison.

He successfully retained that crown three months later, stopping Carlos Ocampo in the first round, and was later upgraded to full champion status.

In his first defence, Tszyu out-pointed Brian Mendoza over 12 rounds to retain the WBO light-middleweight crown.

However, the 30-year-old Australian’s reign proved to be brief, as he surrendered the title to Sebastian Fundora via split decision in March of last year.

Tszyu then suffered a third-round knockout loss at the hands of Bakhram Murtazaliev, before rebound in in April with a fourth-round knockout of Joseph Spencer.

Verdict

Sebastian Fundora caught lightning in a bottle last year, but we are not expecting repeat scenes.

Tim Tszyu is the better boxer and we expect him to showcase that over 12 rounds.
