Tien Survives Epic Battle
Learner Tien booked his quarterfinal spot after defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 4-6 6-1 7-6. He saved four of the five break points he faced, including two match points in the deciding set.
It is a huge milestone for the American, as this is his first Masters quarterfinal. He had previously lost both of his Round-of-16 matches at this level.

Sinner Advances After Tight Contest
Jannik Sinner defeated Joao Fonseca 7-6 7-6 to reach the quarterfinal in Indian Wells. He saved three set points in the first set and recovered after squandering a 5-2 lead in the second before finishing the match in straight sets.
Sinner is now one win away from reaching his third consecutive quarterfinal here. After back-to-back fourth-round exits earlier, he reached the semifinals in his last two appearances, losing to Carlos Alcaraz both times.
The Italian has been slightly below his usual level earlier this season. At the Australian Open he faced at least three breakpoints in every match and later lost to Jakub Mensik in the Doha quarterfinal.
