Calgary Stampeders Form
Calgary booked their place in the playoffs by compiling an 11-7 record to finish third in the West.
The Stampeders started strong as they won five of their first six games, before cooling off in late July with back-to-back wins.
They rebounded with a 28-27 win over Winnipeg though, and backed that up by beating Saskatchewan 32-15 and Edmonton 28-7.
Calgary’s run was ended by a 52-23 loss to the BC Lions, and they then lost all momentum to fall 38-20 at Montreal and 38-24 to BC.
The Stampeders steadied the ship though, beating Hamilton 37-20, and they went on to close out the regular season with a 44-13 blowout of Toronto and a 20-10 success in Edmonton.
BC Lions Form
BC secured their trip to the postseason by going 11-7 to claim second place in the West Division.
The Lions opened the campaign with a victory, only to lose five of their next seven games to sit at 3-5 before their first bye week.
They returned to action with back-to-back wins, but undid that good work as they then lost back-to-back road games to fall below .500 again.
With their backs to the wall BC issued an emphatic response, sparking a six-game win streak with a 38-27 win over Ottawa.
The Lions then beat Calgary 52-23, Toronto 27-22, Calgary 38-24, Edmonton 37-24 and Saskatchewan 27-21 to close out the regular season.
Verdict
The Lions have largely owned the Stampeders over the past few seasons, piling up wins and covers.
BC swept Calgary this time around, winning a couple of high-scoring encounters, and we expect that trend to continue.
