Edmonton Elks at Ottawa Redblacks Preview & Picks

Edmonton are tipped to beat Ottawa for the second time this season.

The Elks won a shootout with the Redblacks last month, and Ottawa’s home record this season does little to instil confidence that they can avenge that loss.

  • Edmonton Elks won the previous meeting by 6 points in July
  • Ottawa Redblacks are 1-3 at home so far this season
  • The two teams are allowing a combined 57.8 points per game
  • The Over cashed when Edmonton and Ottawa met last month

Head To Head

  • Ottawa Redblacks lead the series 4-3 since August 2022
  • Edmonton Elks won 39-33 when the two teams last met on July 6

Edmonton Elks Form

Edmonton head to Ottawa on an improved run of form, having won their last two games to improve their record to 3-6.

The Elks opened with a 31-14 loss at the BC Lions, and after an early bye that was followed by losses to Montreal, 38-28, and Winnipeg, 36-23.

They finally got off the mark on July 6 as they beat Ottawa 39-33 at home, but they failed to back that up.

Edmonton lost 32-14 to the BC Lions before the bye, and then returned to action with a 21-18 defeat at Saskatchewan and a 28-24 victory over Hamilton.

The Elks avoided a fourth consecutive loss as they won 23-22 in Montreal, and they were able to follow that up with a 28-20 win at home to Toronto.

Ottawa Redblacks Form

Ottawa enter this matchup on the back of their seventh defeat of the season so far, but their first since a July bye week.

The Redblacks kicked off the campaign with back-to-back losses, falling 31-26 at Saskatchewan and 39-18 to Montreal.

They finally got off the mark with a 20-12 victory over Calgary, only to then suffer four straight defeats, starting with a 29-16 loss to Toronto.

Ottawa then fell 39-33 in Edmonton, before suffering back-to-back defeats against Hamilton, 23-20 on the road and 30-15 at home.

The Redblacks rallied after the bye week as they beat Calgary 31-11 and Toronto 46-42, but they failed to make it three-in-a-row as they lost 30-27 to Winnipeg.

Verdict

Ottawa have won a couple of home games since the bye, but their home record remains terrible.

The Redblacks have already lost once to Edmonton too, so we are leaning towards the Elks in what could be another high-scoring clash.
