The players return to familiar fairways at The Greenbrier for the latest LIV Golf League tournament. Who will emerge as the winner of this first LIV event in West Virginia come Sunday?

The Old White course was used for the Greenbrier Classic and A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier on the PGA Tour from 2010 to 2019, with current LIV Golf Tour players Danny Lee (2015), Kevin Na (2018) and Joaquin Niemann (2019) winning titles.

Current top-ten in the individual points standings after nine rounds:

1. Talor Gooch 137 pts
2. Cameron Smith 130 pts
3. Brooks Koepka 112 pts
4. Patrick Reed 102 pts
5. Dustin Johnson 96 pts
6. Branden Grace 87 pts
7. Harold Varner III 81 pts
8. Sebatian Munoz 80 pts
9. Peter Uihlein 78 pts
10. Mito Pereira 75 pts

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Patrick Reed

Patrick Reed had an average start to his season on the LIV Golf Tour, finishing T38 in Mayakoba and T18 in Tucson before producing excellent results by placing T3 in Orlando, 4th at the Masters, T3 in Adelaide, T13 in Singapore and T11 in Tulsa before finishing 35th in DC.

The 32-year-old American returned to form by placing T5 at Valderrama and T2 in London.

Additional tournament results Reed has achieved this season include missing the cut at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship (DP World Tour) and finishing 2nd at the Dubai Desert Classic (DP World Tour), T25 PIF Saudi International (Asian Tour), T18 at the PGA Championship, T56 at the US Open and T33 at the recent Open Championship.

The former US Masters Champion has featured four times at the Greenbrier Classic on the PGA Tour, with results of MC in 2013, T26 in 2014, T29 in 2015, and T20 in 2017.

Reed has gone close to picking up his maiden LIV Golf Tour title multiple times this season and will fancy his chances to take home the winner's cheque in West Virginia this weekend.

Dustin Johnson

Dustin Johnson struggled with consistency during the first few months of his season, finishing T35 in Mayakoba, T13 in Tucson, 7th in Orlando, 48th at the Masters, 10th in Adelaide, and T23 in Singapore before securing his second LIV Golf Series career title in Tulsa.

The American battled to maintain his level of play after his triumph, finishing T55 at the PGA Championship and T23 in DC before regaining his touch by placing T10 at the US Open, T8 at Valderrama and 5th in London on the LIV Golf Series. However, he had a disastrous Open Championship campaign, missing the cut after two poor rounds.

The former world number one has graced the greens of the Greenbrier Classic once in his career, finishing T33 in 2012.

Johnson had excellent form before his last tournament result and will look to make amends by adding another trophy to his cabinet come Sunday.

Mito Pereira

Mito Pereira had an excellent beginning to the new LIV Golf Tour season, placing T15 in Mayakoba, T6 in Tucson and T5 in Orlando before finishing T43 at the Masters.

Pereira continued to perform well by placing T26 in Adelaide, 5th in Singapore, T30 in Tulsa, T18 at the PGA Championship and 3rd in DC before missing the cut at the US Open.

The 28-year-old's subsequent two events on the LIV Golf Series were decent to poor, finishing T14 at the Valderrama and T40 in London.

Other notable performances by the Chilean before joining the LIV Golf Invitational Series include placing T4 at the Shriners Children's Open, T45 at the ZOZO Championship, and T18 at the CJ Cup on the PGA Tour before finishing T6 at the Saudi International and T11 at the International Series in Oman on the Asian Tour.

Pereira has had three top-five places on the LIV Golf Tour this season and offers an excellent each-way bet at The Greenbrier.

Peter Uihlein

Peter Uihlein competed on the Asian Tour at the start of his season, placing T18 at the PIF Saudi International before missing the cut at the International Series in Oman.

Uihlein returned to the LIV Golf league, producing top performances by placing second in Mayakoba, T10 in Tucson, T8 in Orlando, T7 in Adelaide and T11 in Singapore.

The 33-year-old's form has dipped slightly after his excellent run of results, finishing T23 in Tulsa, T15 in DC, 43rd in Valderrama and T17 in London.

The American did not contest the Greenbrier Classic during his time on the PGA Tour and will make his debut around The Old White course this weekend.

Uihlein has played well this season and could upstage the others by winning in West Virginia.

Format

An invitational field of 48 golfers will feature at the tournament, with a total purse of $25 million up for grabs. $4 million will go to the winner, while the player coming in last will pocket $120,000.

The players will contest 54 holes instead of the traditional 72 for all the LIV Golf Invitational Series events.

A shotgun start will occur, where the players will tee off simultaneously from different holes.

A 12-four-man team format will run concurrent, with the top three teams earning prize money.

Verdict

Reed has claims for the title and will be challenging for victory on The Old White course this weekend.

Johnson has been threatening to win and can walk away with the honours in West Virginia.

Pereira has done nothing wrong during his debut season on the LIV Golf season and can lift the trophy come Sunday.

Uihlein has solid form and is the long-shot value bet at The Greenbrier this weekend.
