2024 PGA Championship Preview & Tips - Best PGA Tour Picks For Valhalla Major

The PGA Championship returns to Valhalla for the first time since 2014, with a star-studded field of the world's elite golfers vying for victory in Kentucky. Who will lift the Wanamaker Trophy come Sunday?

The Valhalla Golf Club has hosted the PGA Championship on three previous occasions in 1996, 2000 and 2014, including the 2008 Ryder Cup.
These are our four selections that could win the PGA Championship this weekend.
Rory Mcllroy
Rory McIlroy has bounced back to his best in his previous two outings on the PGA Tour, winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend.
Before those excellent results, McIlroy had been in decent form for most of the year, finishing T66 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T24 at the Genesis Invitational, T21 at the Cognizant Classic, T21 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T19 at the Players Championship, 3rd at the Valero Texas Open, T22 at the Masters and T33 at the RBC Heritage.
Additional highlights from McIlroy's season include placing T2 at the Dubai Invitational and winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour.
The world's number two-ranked player has a long history at the PGA Championship, with his best results being T3 in 2010, victory in 2012, T8 in 2013, victory in 2014, 17th in 2015, T8 in 2019, 8th in 2022, and T7 in 2023 in 14 appearances.
McIlroy returns to the scene of his last Major victory in 2014 and will fancy his chances to win his third Wanamaker Trophy after his recent exploits.
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele has been in excellent form on the PGA Tour since mid-March, placing T2 at the Players Championship, T5 at the Valspar Championship, 8th at the Masters, T18 at the RBC Heritage, T23 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and 2nd at the recent Wells Fargo Championship.
Before that, Schauffele had been in equally great touch on the golf course, finishing T10 at the Sentry, T3 at the American Express, T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T54 at the AT&T Pebble Beah Pro-Am, T4 at the Genesis Invitational, and T25 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The Tokyo Olympic gold medalist has compiled a solid record at the PGA Championship, placing T35 in 2018, T16 in 2019, T10 in 2020, MC in 2021, T13 in 2022 and T18 in 2023.
Schauffele has been ultra-consistent this season and will look to cap off his recent performances by lifting the Wanamaker Trophy at Valhalla come Sunday.
Ludvig Aberg
Ludvig Aberg has been in impressive form on the PGA Tour lately, placing 8th at the Players Championship, T14 at the Valero Texas Open, 2nd at the Masters, and T10 at the RBC Heritage.
Before those performances, Aberg had been thereabouts, finishing T47 at the Sentry, T30 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open, 2nd at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T19 at the Genesis Invitational, and T25 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Aberg is holding form and can become the ninth player to win on debut at the PGA Championship this weekend.
Byeong-Hun An
Byeong-Hun An had struggled with consistency in recent months, with results of MC at the Players Championship. MC at the Valero Texas Open, T16 at the Masters, and 67th at the RBC Heritage before rediscovering the form he showed at the start of the year, placing T4 at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson and 3rd at the recent Wells Fargo Championship.
Before that, Byeong-Hun An has been in solid touch, placing 4th at the Sentry, T2 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T31 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T66 at the WM Phoenix Open, T16 at the Genesis Invitational, T21 at the Cognizant Classic and T8 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The Korean golfer has featured seven times at the PGA Championship, missing the cut in 2015 and 2016 before finishing T28 in 2017, T56 in 2018, MC in 2019, T22 in 2020, and T49 in 2021.
Byeong-Hun An has had four top-five places this season and is the long-shot value bet in Kentucky this weekend.
Verdict
Schauffele has done nothing wrong lately and will be challenging for the victory at Valhalla come Sunday.
Aberg has the form to win his maiden Major title in Kentucky this weekend.
Byeong-Hun An has been playing well on the PGA Tour this season and can feature prominently in Louisville.
