United States and Europe clash in the 45th Ryder Cup in New York this weekend, but who will claim the bragging rights at Bethpage Black?
Team Europe defeated Team USA 16.5-11.5 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome in 2023, securing their seventh consecutive Ryder Cup on home soil.
Bethpage Black was the host venue for the 2002 and 2009 U.S. Open, the 2019 PGA Championship, and The Barclays on the PGA Tour in 2012 and 2016. Will home advantage be key in New York?

Team Europe have the edge in the Ryder Cup, recording 13 victories to Team USA’s nine in head-to-head encounters since 1979.
Team USA have hosted the Ryder Cup on 11 occasions, emerging victorious six times and suffering five defeats at the hands of Team Europe.
Team USA have kept six players from the previous edition of the Ryder Cup, with Bryson DeChambeau and Harris English returning to the fold, alongside four rookies: J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Ben Griffin, and Cameron Young.
Team Europe have named an almost identical side to the one that secured victory in 2023. The only change sees Rasmus Hojgaard replacing his brother Nicolai in the line-up.
All the players on Team USA are inside the world's top 25 and they have won three of the last four Ryder Cups played on home turf, with Team Europe's most recent away victory coming in 2012, a record that gives the Americans the advantage heading into the 2025 edition.
Top Points Scorer for Team USA
Russell Henley has had an excellent season on the PGA Tour, recording a victory in March and placing in the top ten on nine occasions.
Henley's notable achievements include victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and a T10 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, a T5 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a T6 at the Cognizant Classic, a T8 at the RBC Heritage, a T5 at the Memorial Tournament, a T10 at the U.S. Open, a T2 at the Travelers Championship, a T10 at the Open Championship, and a T2 at the Tour Championship.
The world's fourth-ranked golfer is making his debut at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Henley has performed well throughout this season and could emerge as the top points scorer for Team USA in New York this weekend.
Top Points Scorer for Team Europe
Jon Rahm has been outstanding on the LIV Golf Tour and at the Majors this year, placing inside the top ten an impressive 14 times in 19 starts.
Rahm's noteworthy results this season include a T2 in Riyadh, a 6th in Adelaide, a T6 in Hong Kong, a T5 in Singapore, a T9 in Miami, a 4th in Mexico City, a T7 in South Korea, a T8 at the PGA Championship, a T8 in Virginia, a T7 at the U.S. Open, a 2nd in Andalucia, a T5 in the United Kingdom, a T2 in Chicago, and a 2nd in Indianapolis.
The former world number one has made three appearances at the Ryder Cup, winning in 2018 and in 2023 and accumulating a record of 6-3-3.
Rahm has been in tremendous touch throughout 2025 and has the form to become Team Europe’s leading points scorer at Bethpage this weekend.
Tournament Winning Margin
The upcoming Ryder Cup promises to be a closely contested affair, with both sides fielding a wealth of talent. However, Team USA will have the advantage of playing on home soil.
The past four Ryder Cups have produced decisive outcomes: Europe triumphed 16.5–11.5 in 2014, before the USA responded with a 17–11 win in 2016. Europe regained the trophy in 2018 with a 17.5–10.5 victory, but the Americans hit back emphatically in 2021, winning 19–9. Europe reclaimed the title in 2023 with a 16.5–11.5 win.
This year’s contest is expected to deliver a series of tightly fought match-ups, with both teams boasting world-class players. Nonetheless, Team USA are tipped to edge the competition, reclaiming the Ryder Cup with a projected score-line of 15.5–12.5.
Format
The Ryder Cup takes place over three days, comprising 28 matches and 28 points at stake.
Each victory in a match is worth one point, and a tie is worth half a point.
Day 1: 4 Foursome matches in the morning and 4 Four-ball matches in the afternoon.
Day 2: 4 Foursome matches in the morning and 4 Four-ball matches in the afternoon.
Day 3: 12 Singles matches.
14.5 points are required to win the Ryder Cup, and 14 points are needed for the defending champion to retain the Cup.
Verdict
Team USA have triumphed in three of the last four Ryder Cups held on home turf and look poised to regain the trophy come Sunday.
