The Orioles started September with a good run of form that saw them reel of seven consecutive wins.
That streak was halted by a 7-3 defeat in Boston, and although they rebounded to beat St Louis 11-5 at home, that proved to be the start of a dip.
Baltimore lost the next two meetings with the Cardinals, 5-2 and 0-1, and then suffered back-to-back defeats to Tampa, losing 4-3 and 7-1.
The Orioles were able to stop the rot against the Rays though, splitting the series by winning the final two games, 8-0 and 5-4.
Houston Astros Form
Houston enter this series on a disappointing run of form, having blown hot and cold throughout September.
The Astros started the month by getting swept at home by the New York Yankees, losing 6-2, 5-4 and 6-1.
They responded emphatically by sweeping Texas in a huge division series, winning 13-6, 14-1 and 12-3, and then bounced back from an 11-2 loss to San Diego with 7-5 and 12-2 wins.
Houston enjoyed less success in their next two series though, suffering 4-0 and 6-2 defeats to Oakland before winning the final meeting 6-2.
The Astros then avoided being swept by Kansas City as they lost 4-2 and 10-8 before downing the Royals 7-1.

Justin Verlander is headed to the mound for Houston and he is backed to deliver once again for the Astros.
