Head To Head

  • Boston Red Sox lead the regular season series 5-1
  • Boston Red Sox won 4-1 when the teams last met on June 18

Boston Red Sox Form

Boston come into this series on a solid run of form that saw them win five of their seven games prior to Thursday’s outing Washington.

The Red Sox endured a rough run at the start of the month as they lost five times in a six-game spell – a sequence that started with a 6-3 defeat in Seattle.

They were then swept at home by Toronto, before splitting the first two games of the series with Kansas City.

Boston took the final two meetings with the Royals though, 4-3 and 2-0, and they then followed that up by sandwiching a 6-2 loss to Detroit with 5-2 and 6-3 wins.

The Red Sox then split the first two games of the series in Washington, taking the first game 5-4 before losing the second 6-2.

New York Yankees Form

New York head to Boston in miserable form, having lost eight of their previous 10 games and each of the last five.

This run started when the Yankees again failed to follow up a victory over Houston, losing the final game of that series 9-7.

They then travelled to Chicago and lost two of their three meetings with the White Sox, sandwiching a 7-1 win with 5-1 and 9-2 defeats.

New York then won the series opener in Miami, 9-4, but failed to follow that up as they lost the final two games of the series, 3-1 and 8-7.

The Yankees then travelled to Atlanta where they were swept in a three-game series, losing 11-3, 5-0 and 2-0.
