Kansas City sealed their place in the playoffs by putting together an 86-76 record to finish second in the American League Central.
The Royals ended the regular season with four wins in their last six games to get back on track after a seven-game losing run.
That bad run began as they lost 4-3 in Pittsburgh, before returning home to suffer series sweeps at the hands of both Detroit and San Francisco.
Kansas City ended their losing skid when they went out on the road, sweeping Washington thanks to 1-0, 3-0 and 7-4 wins.
The Royals then moved on to Atlanta where they bounced back from 3-0 and 2-1 defeats to the Braves with a 4-2 victory in the series finale.
Baltimore Orioles Form
Baltimore compiled a 91-71 record in the regular season to finish second in the American League East, three games behind the New York Yankees.
The Orioles’ hopes of winning the division were all but ended by a bad run of form in September that saw them lose 11 games out of 16.
They did finish the regular season on a positive note however, as they went out on the road to win five of their last six matchups.
Baltimore began that road trip with a visit to New York, where they beat the Yankees 5-3 and 9-7 before losing the final game of the series, 10-1.
The Orioles then travelled on to Minnesota where they swept the Twins in a three-game series, winning 7-2, 9-2 and 6-2.
Verdict
Kansas City continued their good road form in Game 1, while Baltimore suffered another home loss.
Momentum is with the Royals heading into tonight's matchup, so we are leaning towards the underdog.
