The Dodgers began their defence of the World Series on Tuesday, and they enjoyed a successful start as they beat the Chicago Cubs 4-1 in Tokyo.

Chicago entered the 2025 regular season looking to end a five-year absence from the playoffs.
The Cubs, who have not appeared in the postseason since 2020, dropped their opening two games a year ago, but were able to kick-start their campaign between April and May.
A rough run proved between May and July proved to be their undoing though, as they stacked up a bunch of losses at the worst possible time.
Chicago rallied at the end of August, but the damage had been done and they were forced to settle for an 83-79 record for the second season running.
The Cubs could not have asked for a much tougher start to the 2025 season, so it was no surprise to see them lose 4-1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers in their opening game.
Verdict
It is fair to say that both teams will experience a drop in pitcher in the second game of this series.
However, what is not changing is a Los Angeles offense that can pile up runs, so we expect the Dodgers to complete a Tokyo series sweep of Chicago.
