Toronto head out on the road for the first time in this series boasting a commanding 2-0 lead over Florida.
The Maple Leafs upset the defending champions in the series opener, 5-4, and then backed that up with another surprise victory in Game 2, winning 4-3 to open up a two-game lead.
They went 52-26-4 in the regular season to earn their place in the playoffs, but were made to work for their 4-2 win over Ottawa in the first round of the postseason.
Toronto raced out of the blocks as they beat the Senators 6-2 in regulation and 3-2 in overtime at home, before winning 3-2 in overtime in Ottawa.
The Maple Leafs then passed up on two opportunities to clinch as they lost 4-3 in overtime on the road and 4-0 in regulation at home, but they did game the job done in Game 6 thanks to a 4-2 victory.
Florida Panthers Form
Florida return home in a bad position, having suffered back-to-back road defeats to start this series.
The Panthers travelled to Toronto for Games 1 and 2, and they return home two games down following surprise 5-4 and 4-3 defeats.
The defending champions went 47-31-4 in the regular season to seal a playoff place, and they made straightforward work of Tampa Bay in the first round.
Florida made the perfect start as they went out on the road to beat the Lightning 2-0 and 6-2, only to lose their home opener in the series, 5-1.
The Panthers issued an immediate response though, and wrapped up the series in five games as they backed up a 4-2 home win with a 6-3 overtime victory on the road.
Verdict
Toronto have taken command of this series, but we are not ready to write off Florida.
The Panthers have been in excellent form at home over the past several weeks, and they have had success offensively in this series despite the losses.
