The Yankees enjoyed a good run of form between late May and early June, but the wheels have come off over the past couple of weeks.
The lost eight of their final 10 games in June, and began July with 5-4, 3-2 and 8-4 defeats at home to Cincinnati.
New York then took on bitter rivals Boston at home and sandwiched a 14-4 victory over the Red Sox with 5-3 and 3-0 defeats.
The Yankees then went back out on the road and had to bounce back from a 5-3 defeat in Tampa with a 2-1 win over the Rays, only to then lose the series finale, 5-4.
Baltimore Orioles Form
Baltimore come into this series with New York having been swept in a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs.
The Orioles enjoyed a four-game win streak in late June as they backed up a 4-2 win over Cleveland with 11-2, 2-1 and 6-5 victories against Texas.
They lost the final game of that series, 11-2, only to rebound in Seattle as they beat the Mariners 2-0 and 4-1.
Baltimore lost the last meeting with the Mariners, 7-3, but bounced back in Oakland as they sandwiched a 19-8 defeat to the A’s with 3-2 and 6-3 victories.
The Orioles then returned home to take on the Chicago Cubs and lost all three meetings with the team from the 'Windy City', 9-2, 4-0 and 8-0.
