Texas have taken command of the AL West by winning seven of their eight games prior to Thursday’s meeting with Seattle.
The Rangers lost four consecutive games earlier this month, only to bounce back with a six-game win streak.
Their form then dipped again as they lost four straight games, but they were able to turn things around with 6-4 and 15-5 home wins against Boston.
Texas then swept Seattle in a three-game series, beating the Mariners 8-5, 2-0 and 9-8 at home.
The Rangers followed up by sandwiching a 9-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels with 5-1 and 5-0 victories.
Seattle Mariners Form
Seattle entered this series in serious need of some wins after losing eight of their 12 games prior to Thursday’s meeting with Texas.
The Mariners saw their playoff hopes suffer a setback when they were swept at home by the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month, losing 6-3, 6-2 and 6-1.
They halted their slide with 5-0, 7-2 and 6-3 victories in Oakland, but they failed to build on those successes when they visited Texas.
Seattle were swept themselves, losing 8-5, 2-0 and 9-8, and that was followed by a 5-1 defeat at home to Houston.
The Mariners stopping that losing sequence with a 6-2 win over the Astros, only to then lose the final game of that series, 8-3.
Verdict
Texas go with the better pitcher and face a starter who has a miserable record against them, so we are backing the Rangers to hit back here.
