Toronto sealed their spot in the postseason by compiling a 94-68 record to finish top of the AL East standings.
The Blue Jays finished with an identical record to the New York Yankees, but they took the head-to-head and received a first-round bye as a result.
They stacked up a bunch of losses in the second half of September, before a 6-1 win over Boston sparked a late flurry of four straight wins.
Toronto backed up that victory with a series sweep of Tampa Bay, beating the Rays 4-2, 5-1 and 13-4 to wrap up the regular season.
The Blue Jays have now taken their win streak to six games thanks to back-to-back playoff wins over the New York Yankees, 10-1 and 13-7.

New York earned their trip to the postseason by compiling a 94-68 record to finish second in the AL East, behind playoff opponents Toronto.
The Yankees dropped the head-to-head with the Blue Jays, and that meant they missed out on a first-round bye and had to overcome bitter rivals Boston to make it to the Division Series.
They went into that Wild Card clash with the Red Sox on a roll, having won 11 of their final 13 regular season games, but they dug themselves into an early hole with a 3-1 defeat in Game 1.
New York rebounded quickly though, and completed the turnaround as they backed up a 4-3 win in Game 2 with a 4-0 series-sealing success on Thursday.
The Yankees are going to have to dig deep in this series too, having opened with 10-1 and 13-7 defeats on the road.
Verdict
New York are a tough 'out' at home, but Toronto appear to be in full command in this series.
The Blue Jays have torn through the New York pitching ranks through two games, and another strong start here could see them seal the deal.
