Charles Oliveira is a former UFC lightweight champion with a career record of 35-11 (10 KOs, 21 Subs) with 1 No Contest.
Oliveira first made his debut in the UFC back in 2010, and since then he has gone on to establish himself as one of the very best lightweight fighters on the planet.
He finally reached the summit in May 2021 when he knocked out Michael Chandler in the second round to claim the vacant 155lb crown.
The 35-year-old Brazilian then defended the title with a third-round submission win over Dustin Poirier, but that proved to be his only successful defence.
Oliveira was stripped of the title after failing to make weight for his first-round submission win over Justin Gaethje, and when he attempted to regain it in his very next fight he was submitted by Islam Makhachev in the second round.
‘Do Bronxs’ rebounded in his next outing, knocking out Beneil Dariush to extend his UFC record for most finishes to 20, but he failed to back that up, dropping a split decision to Arman Tsarukyan.
He responded with another win over Michael Chandler last November, and that earned him another shot at the UFC lightweight title.
Oliveira failed to become a two-time champion though, as he was knocked out in the first round by Ilia Topuria.
Mateusz Gamrot Form
Mateusz Gamrot is the number eight ranked lightweight contender with a professional record of 25-3 (8 KOs, 5 Subs) and 1 No Contest.
Gamrot signed with the UFC in 2020 but made a disappointing start as he dropped a split decision to Guram Kutateladze in his debut.
The 34-year-old Polish fighter rebounded in emphatic fashion though, knocking out Scott Holtzman in the second round, and that proved to be the start of a four-fight win streak.
During this run he submitted Jeremy Stephens in the first round, knocked out Carlos Diego Ferreira in the second and then bested Arman Tsarukyan on points.
Gamrot’s surge up the ladder was halted by a points loss to Beneil Dariush, but he quickly got back on track with a split decision win over Jalin Turner.
He then beat Rafael Fiziev by TKO in the second round, before recording a unanimous decision win over Rafael dos Anjos.,
His run was then ended by a split decision defeat to Dan Hooker, but he rebounded in May of this year with a points success against Ludovit Klein.
Verdict
Charles Oliveira has plenty of miles on the clock, but he continues to compete at the very highest of levels.
