Marcin Tybura is the #8 heavyweight contender with a professional MMA record of 25-8 (9 KOs, 7 Subs).
Tybura’s UFC career looked to be in jeopardy when he lost four times in five fights between November 2017 and September 2019.
However, he sparked a turnaround in fortunes when he beat the man he faces on Saturday, Serghei Spivac, by unanimous decision in February 2020.
The 38-year-old Polish fighter then backed that up with unanimous points wins over Maxim Grishin and Ben Rothwell, before knocking out Greg Hardy in the second round.
Tybura then took out Walt Harris in the first round with strikes, but saw his streak end at five fights when he dropped a decision to Alexander Volkov in October 2021.
He rebounded with a majority decision win over Alexander Romanov and then got the nod from all three judges to beat Blagoy Ivanov in the first of his two outings last year.
Tybura failed to make it three-in-a-row, as he was knocked out in 73 seconds by Tom Aspinall, but he did rebound in March with a submission win over Tai Tuiavasa.
Serghei Spivac Form
Serghei Spivac is the #9 ranked heavyweight contender with a career record of 16-4 (7 KOs, 7 Subs).
Spivac struggled early in his UFC career as he lost two of his first three fights, but a majority decision win over Carlos Felipe sparked some improved form.
He backed up that victory by knocking out Jared Vanderaa in the second round, and then made it three wins in a row by beating Aleksei Oleinik on points.
The 29-year-old Moldovan’s run was ended by a 150-second knockout defeat to Tom Aspinall, but he rebounded quickly and won his next three fights.
Spivac returned to winning ways by knocking out Greg Hardy in 136 seconds, and he then took out Augusto Sakai with strikes in the second round.
He made it three-in-a-row with a first-round submission of Derrick Lewis, but once again he failed to string together four consecutive victories.
This time he was knocked out by Ciryl Gane in the second round of their fight last September.
Verdict
Marcin Tybura’s route to victory is the same as it was the first time these two men met.
