Nikita Krylov vs Ryan Spann Preview & Picks
Ryan Spann is backed to cause an upset in this rescheduled fight.
Spann is a talented all-rounder with fight-finishing power, but a submission win is more likely here.
Most of his career wins have come via that method, and Nikita Krylov has been susceptible to submissions.
- Ryan Spann is 7-2 since signing with the UFC
- 12 of Ryan Spann’s 21 career wins have come by submission
- 7 of Ryan Spann’s last 8 fights have not gone the distance
- Nikita Krylov has been submitted 6 times in his career
- 34 of Nikita Krylov’s 38 career fights have ended in a stoppage
Nikita Krylov Form
Nikita Krylov has a 29-9 (12 KOs, 15 Sub) record and is ranked sixth in the light-heavyweight division.
Krylov has gone 4-4 since signing with the UFC back in 2018, but goes into this bout on the back of a couple of wins.
His debut ended in disappointment as he was submitted by Jan Blachowicz in the second round, but he rebounded in his next outing to tap out Ovince Saint Preux in the second round.
The 30-year-old Ukrainian then failed to back that up as he dropped a split decision to Glover Teixeira.
Krylov rebounded immediately with a unanimous decision win against Johnny Walker, but that would prove to be his last victory for over two years.
‘The Miner’ lost a decision to Magomed Ankalaev in his next fight and was then submitted in the first round of his fight with Paul Craig.
He finally ended his drought last year, stopping Alexander Gustaffson with strikes in just 67 seconds.
Krylov then backed that up last October when he earned a unanimous decision win against former light-heavyweight title challenger Volkan Oezdemir.
Ryan Spann Form
Ryan Spann is the eighth ranked fighter in the light-heavyweight division and has a 21-7 (6 KOs, 12 Subs) record.
Spann earned himself a UFC contract while appearing on the Dana White’s Contender Series, and reeled off wins in his first four fights.
He bested Luis Henrique over three rounds in his debut and then knocked out veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the first round.
The wins kept coming as the 31-year-old American submitted Devin Clark and beat Sam Alvey by split decision, but his streak was ended in 2020.
Spann was knocked out in the first round by Johnny Walker, and although he rebounded to stop Misha Cirkunov with strikes in 71 seconds, he was then submitted in the first by Anthony Smith.
‘Superman’ once again avoided back-to-back defeats though, getting his career back on track with a first-round submission of Ion Cutelaba.
He then made it back-to-back wins last November when he knocked out Dominick Reyes in 80 seconds.
Verdict
Ryan Spann is the underdog here, but he could be primed for an upset.
He has the power to rock Nikita Krylov with strikes and the submission skills to finish it on the mat.
