Zhang Weili is a two-time UFC women’s strawweight champion with a career record of 24-3 (11 KOs, 8 Subs).
Zhang made her UFC debut in August 2018 and got off to an ideal start as she beat Danielle Taylor via unanimous decision.
She then quickly climbed the ladder as he submitted Jessica Aguilar in the first round and beat Tecia Torres by unanimous decision.
That earned ‘Magnum’ a shot at the women’s strawweight title and she took her big chance, stopping Jessica Andrade in only 42 seconds.
Zhang then beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk by split decision in her first defence, but failed to register a second successful defence as she was knocked out in 78 seconds by Rose Namajunas.
The 34-year-old Chinese fighter lost the rematch too, this time by split decision, but she got back on track when she beat Jedrzejczyk by second-round knockout in their rematch.
She then tapped out Carla Esparza in the second round to regain the women’s strawweight title in November 2022.
Zhang fought once in 2023, retaining the title with a unanimous decision victory over Amanda Lemos.
Yan Xiaonan Form
Yan Xiaonan is the #1 ranked women’s strawweight contender with a professional record of 17-3 (8 KOs) with 1 No Contest.
Yan made her UFC debut in November 2017 and went on to win her first six fights inside the Octagon.
All six of those fights went the distance and she was the unanimous winner in each of them, beating Kailin Curran, Viviane Pereira, Syuri Kondo, Angela Hill, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Claudia Gadelha.
Her rise of the ladder came to a shuddering halt in May 2021 however, when she was knocked out in the second round by Carla Esparza.
The 34-year-old Chinese fighter dropped her next fight too, this time suffering a split decision defeat at the hands of Marina Rodriguez.
Yan has not lost since though, winning back-to-back fights to earn this shot at the women’s strawweight crown.
‘Fury’ finally stopped the rot with a majority decision win over Mackenzie Dern, and she then knocked out Jessica Andrade in the first round in her only outing of 2023.
Verdict
Zhang is the all-round better fighter and has a huge edge if the fight hits the floor.
