Los Angeles booked their place in the Play-In Tournament by compiling a 47-35 regular season record.
The Lakers closed out the regular season by winning 10 of their final 13 games, including a meeting with New Orleans on Sunday.
They started this sequence with a five-game wins streak, and they then bounced back from a defeat in Indiana with four consecutive wins.
Los Angeles’ run was halted by a 127-117 defeat to Minnesota, and they then lost 134-120 to Golden State as their hopes of reaching the playoffs automatically were ended.
The Lakers responded over their final two games of the regular season however, following up a 123-120 win in Memphis with a 124-108 win in New Orleans on Sunday.

New Orleans earned themselves a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament by putting together a 49-33 regular season record.
The Pelicans wrapped up the regular season on the back of a loss to Los Angeles, but they had strung together a few wins prior to that.
They ended March with a 104-92 defeat to Boston, sparking a four-game skid that pretty much brought an end to their hopes of avoiding the Play-In.
New Orleans snapped that skid in Phoenix though, winning 113-105, and they backed that up with three more road wins as they Portland 110-100, Sacramento 135-123 and Golden State 114-109.
However, the Pelicans failed to make it five-in-a-row in their regular season finale, losing 124-108 at home to the Los Angeles Lakers at the weekend.
Verdict
Los Angeles have repeatedly got the better of New Orleans in recent times, and LeBron and Davis are coming in hot.
