Oklahoma City Thunder Form

Oklahoma City head back out on the road with an opportunity to win the NBA Championship following back-to-back defeats.

The Thunder lost the series opener, 111-110 at home, but have turned things around by winning three of the last four meetings with Indiana, starting with a 123-107 victory at home.

They dropped their road opener 116-107, only to rebound with a 111-104 road win and a 120-109 home success that has them on the brink of glory.

Oklahoma City came into the NBA Finals having won 12 of their 16 postseason games, eliminating Memphis, Denver and Minnesota.

The Thunder made a dominant start to the playoffs as they swept Memphis in four games, winning 131-80 and 118-99 at home, and 114-108 and 117-115 on the road.

They failed to replicate that dominance in the early stages of the second round though, as they sandwiched a 149-106 win over Denver with 121-119 and 113-104 (OT) defeats.

Oklahoma City rebounded to take the next two games against the Nuggets though, 92-87 and 112-105, but failed to clinch on the road as they lost 119-107 in Game 6.

That set up a huge Game 7 showdown on their home court, and the Thunder delivered for the home fans with a 125-93 victory to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

They backed up that massive win in the early stages of the conference finals, taking control of the series with Minnesota with back-to-back victories.

Oklahoma City opened up a 2-0 series lead over the Timberwolves as they ran out 114-88 and 118-103 winners at home.

The Thunder failed to complete a series sweep as they lost 143-101 in their first road game of the series, but they rebounded to wrap things up with 128-126 and 124-94 victories.

Indiana Pacers Form

Indiana return home knowing that they must beat Oklahoma City to force Game 7 in the NBA Finals.

The Pacers made a great start to the series as they won 111-110 on the road in Game 1, but they have won just one of the four meetings since then.

They rebounded from a 123-107 road defeat with a 116-107 victory at home, only to then lose 111-104 at home and 120-109 on the road to leave their championship dreams on the edge.

Indiana entered the NBA Finals having also won 12 of their 16 postseason games to down Milwaukee, Cleveland and New York.

The Pacers began the playoffs with back-to-back home wins over Milwaukee, beating the Bucks 117-98 and 123-115.

They failed to sweep as they lost their road opener 117-101, but they rebounded swiftly and reeled off 129-103 and 119-118 (OT) wins to seal the series in five games.

Indiana maintained that momentum as they then upset Cleveland with back-to-back road wins, 121-112 and 120-119, to take early control of the series.

The Pacers again lost Game 3, losing 126-104 at home, but they again bounced back from a defeat in style, clinching the series with a 128-109 win at home and a 114-105 win on the road.

They then made a dream start to the Eastern Conference Finals as they won back-to-back games in New York, beating the Knicks 138-135 in overtime and 114-109 in regulation.

Indiana’s theme of losing Game 3 continued with a 106-100 loss at home, but they responded immediately to that defeat with a 130-121 victory to restore their two-game lead.

The Pacers failed to clinch on the road, losing 111-94, but they did get the job done when they returned home, wrapping up the series with a 125-108 victory.

Verdict

Tyrese Haliburton’s injury is huge here – even if he does get on the court he will be severely hampered.

Oklahoma City are tipped to take full advantage of that and wrap up the NBA title without the need for a Game 7.
