They blew a 15-point half-time lead to trail by six heading into the final period, but they out-scored the Warriors 28-18 in the final 12 minutes to clinch a 108-104 win.
Devin Booker led the way with 32 points, eight assists and six total rebounds, while Kevin Durant notched a double double with 18 points and 11 boards.
Jusuf Nrkic also delivered in his debut for the Suns, notching 14 points and 14 rebounds in a double double of his own.
Los Angeles Lakers Form
Los Angeles return home looking to get off the mark after suffering a season-opening defeat in Denver.
The Lakers endured a rough first quarter as they were out-scored by 14 points, but they steadied the ship over the next two to trail by seven heading into the fourth.
The deficit was too big for them to overcome though, as they eventually went down to a 119-117 defeat to the defending champions.
LeBron James ended the night with a team-leading 21 points, to go along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Anthony Davis put up 17 points and eight boards, while Taurean Prince contributed 18 points in his debut.
Verdict
Los Angeles were poor in their season-opener, but they can rebound here.
Phoenix are likely to be without Booker and Beal, and that is likely to be too much for the Suns to overcome on the road.
