Vanderbilt head out on the road boasting a perfect record, having won each of their first five games of the season.
The Commodores kicked off the season with a 45-3 blowout of Charleston Southern, and then backed that up with a couple of big road wins.
They first beat Virginia Tech 44-20, before moving on to South Carolina to stun the number 11 ranked South Carolina, 31-7, in their SEC opener.
That win over South Carolina propelled Vanderbilt into AP’s top 25 rankings, and that have maintain their place with back-to-back home wins in non-conference action.
The Commodores first destroyed Georgia State in a 70-21 victory, before overcoming a sloppy first half to down Utah State 55-35.
Alabama Form
Alabama return home on the back of their biggest win of the season so far, which improved their record to 3-1.
The Crimson Tide entered the season as a top-10 team according to AP, but made a miserable start to the campaign as they went out on the road to lose 31-17 at Florida State.
They rallied at home over the next couple of weeks though, to enter their conference opener with a 2-1 record.
Alabama first shut out UL-Monroe in a 73-0 victory, and backed that up a week later with a 38-14 success against Wisconsin.
The Crimson Tide then made it three-in-a-row in huge fashion last weekend, heading out on the road to take down Georgia, 24-21.
Verdict
Can Vandy top last season’s upset of the Crimson Tide by beating them in Alabama?
As much as they have improved since then it is doubtful, but we do like Diego Pavia and a bunch of free points against an Alabama defense that has had problems with mobile QBs.
