Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings Preview & Picks

Minnesota are tipped to follow up Monday night’s win by taking their home opener.

Brian Flores’ defense can cause all sorts of problems for Michael Penix Jr, while JJ McCarthy and the Vikings offense make enough plays come away with the win.

  • Minnesota Vikings are 8-1 in their last 9 home games
  • Minnesota Vikings are 7-2-0 ATS in their last 9 home games
  • Atlanta Falcons 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games
  • The Over cashed in each of the previous 3 meetings

Head To Head

  • Minnesota Vikings lead the all-time series 22-12
  • Minnesota Vikings won 42-21 when the two teams last met in December 2024

Atlanta Falcons Form

Atlanta head out on the road for the first time this season looking to rebound from an opening-day defeat at home.

The Falcons saw their postseason drought reach seven seasons in 2024, as they once again finished with a losing record.

They put themselves in the playoff hunt with six wins in their first nine games, but they won just two of their remaining six to again miss out.

Atlanta installed rookie QB Michael Penix Jr as the starter during the final few weeks of the regular season, with mixed results, and with him at the controls they made a losing start to 2025.

The Falcons hosted division rivals Tampa Bay on opening weekend, and fell to a 23-20 defeat at the hands of the Buccaneers.

Minnesota Vikings Form

Minnesota go into their home opener looking to back up last week’s come-from-behind victory in Chicago.

The Vikings made it to the playoffs last season, only to bow out of the postseason quickly as they lost 27-9 to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wildcard round.

Veteran quarterback Sam Darnold received plenty of plaudits during that run, but despite his performances they moved on from him in the offseason.

JJ McCarthy, who sat out his rookie year with injury, was named Minnesota’s new starter, and he enjoyed a winning start to his NFL career last Monday night.

The Vikings put up 21 points in the fourth quarter as they came storming back to beat division rivals Chicago, 27-24, and Soldier Field.

Verdict

There was some good and some bad from JJ McCarthy last Monday, but the Vikings got the job done.

Minnesota’s defense played a starring role as they rallied from giving up an early touchdown to put the clamps on the Bears, and we expect that unit to play a key role as the Vikings go 2-0.
