Detroit go into their penultimate game of the season having lost three of their last four games to slip to 8-7.
The Lions opened the season strong as they won five of their seven games before the bye week, but they were unable to maintain that form after the bye week.
They returned to action with a 27-24 defeat to Minnesota, and then failed to follow up a 44-22 win at Washington as they lost 16-9 to Philadelphia.
Detroit rebounded to beat the New York Giants 34-27, before responding to a 31-24 defeat to Green Bay with a 44-30 victory over Dallas.
The Lions have not won since though, suffering a 41-34 loss at the Los Angeles Rams and a 29-24 defeat at home to Pittsburgh.
Minnesota Vikings Form
Minnesota are already eliminated from the race to reach the playoffs, but they are a team in good form having now won three straight to reach 7-8.
The Vikings failed to string wins together during the first five weeks for the season, but they did enter they bye week with a winning record at 3-2.
They lost their first two games after the bye though, and then failed to build on a 27-24 win at Detroit as they lost four consecutive games.
Minnesota lost 27-19 to Baltimore and 19-17 to Chicago at home, before heading out on the road to lose 23-6 at Green Bay and 26-0 in Seattle.
The Vikings finally stopped the rot as they downed Washington at home, 31-0, and they then backed that up on the road as they beat Dallas 34-26 and the New York Giants 16-13.
Verdict
Detroit have dug themselves into a hole with back-to-back losses, but they can stop the rot here and avenge that loss in November.
