Dallas enter the penultimate game of the season having been already eliminated from the playoff race at 6-8-1.
The Cowboys dug themselves into an early hole as they won just three of their nine games before the bye week.
They kick-started their campaign in the middle of November though, sparking a three-game win streak with the 33-16 victory over Las Vegas.
Dallas backed up that success by beating the two teams that competed in last season's Super Bowl, downing Philadelphia 24-21 and Kansas City 31-28 at home.
The Cowboys' form stalled in December however, as their season was ended by a three-game losing skid that has seen them follow up a 44-30 defeat in Detroit with home losses to Minnesota, 34-26, and the Los Angeles Chargers, 34-17.
Washington Commanders Form
Washington come into their home finale on a miserable run, having now lost nine of their last 10 games to fall to 4-11.
The Commanders made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game last season and came into the current campaign with high hopes.
They struggled for consistency early on though, going 3-2 in their first five games, and their form then nose-dived as a 25-24 loss to Chicago kicked off an eight-game losing skid.
Washington fell 44-22 at Dallas, 28-7 at Kansas City, 38-14 to Seattle, 44-22 to Detroit, 16-13 to Miami, 27-26 to Denver, and 27-26 to Denver.
The Commanders finally ended their losing run with a 29-21 win at the New York Giants, but their joy was short-lived as they lost 29-18 to Philadelphia last weekend.
Verdict
Both teams are out of playoff contention, but both teams will want to claim some bragging rights in this rivalry.
